Overall purpose:

The post holder will be required to undertake all operational facilities tasks including the management of the Goods In/ Loading Bay function for the LMS

Ensuring deliveries and collections are managed effectively in order to minimise the waiting times and congestion

To provide a service for the collection and delivery of post and courier packages, via the Imperial post room, to staff across campus

To provide support for the Laboratory Service Team with day-to-day duties

Main duties/ Key responsibilities:

  • To manage the day to day activities for deliveries and service engineers ensuring security of the Goods In is maintained at all times
  • Carry out daily checks, in and around the LMS, including office and lab areas in other buildings occupied by MRC. Report any defects through the helpdesk and follow up any corrective actions
  • Ensure the Liquid Nitrogen cylinders are managed for the appropriate buildings
  • Undertake checks on meeting rooms and the seminar room to ensure fixtures and fittings are operational
  • Liaise with the Admin Team to ensure the seminar room is set up according to the diary schedule for seminar room A & B
  • Operational management for the disposal of WEEE waste from the various sites using the using the disposal routes available on site
  • Assist with, when required, with external engineers to enable plant and equipment repairs. Similarly with Lab engineers on behalf of Lab Services
  • Check emails daily for any job requests that may arise. Respond at all times to ensure timely updates are provided
  • Monitor photocopier paper supplies and replenish as required. Report any faults to the IT helpdesk
  • Undertake ad-hoc requests as they arise and any other duties commensurate with the grade

Working relationships:

  • The role requires significant collaboration with the Laboratory Services department at all levels but particularly the laboratory support personnel
  • To foster a pro-active and supportive working relationship with the LMS administrative support staff, Laboratory Managers and staff
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with external partners (Imperial College and NHS Trust) in the Facilities environment at all levels
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with MRC partners (MRC Head Office, other MRC centres and SSC) in the Facilities environment, specifically at management grade
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key external suppliers of relevant services

Education / qualifications / training required (will be assessed from application form):

Essential:

  • Educated to A Level/ NVQ/ BTEC standard or with equivalent work experience
  • Computer literate

Desirable:

  • Holds a full clean Driving Licence

Previous work experience required (will be assessed from application form):

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a customer facing role

Desirable:

  • Previous work experience in Stores within a scientific/academic environment
  • Previous experience of Stores / Goods-in

Knowledge and experience (will be assessed from application form):

Essential:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to plan own workload
  • Good written communication skills in English
