View Vacancy -- Post Doctoral Training Fellow - MGU - 649
We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to work in a team investigating the molecular genetics of sexual development, led by Dr Andy Greenfield at the MRC Harwell Institute. You should be highly motivated, with an excellent understanding of genetics and an interest in using the mouse as a model system. You will drive research investigating genetic mechanisms causing disorders/differences of sex development by examining gene function during embryonic and fetal development in the mouse.
Research will involve a wide range of techniques, including mouse embryonic dissections, in situ hybridisation, RNA extraction and qPCR analysis of gene expression, studies on chromatin and epigenomics, microscopy/confocal imaging, cell and organ culture and the design of sophisticated mouse mutagenesis experiments, in addition to routine molecular techniques (DNA cloning, sequencing, genotyping etc).
The post is a MRC Postdoctoral Scientist. This role aims to support post-doctoral training and help establish successful research scientists in their chosen field. During the fellowship tenure, we are committed to provide mentorship for career development and improvement of communication skills.
Qualifications and Training:
PhD (or in the final stages of obtaining) in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Genetics, Biochemistry), or equivalent
Previous research experience required:
Hands-on experience in genetics research, preferably mouse genetics
Some experience in developmental biology/embryology is highly desirable
High motivation to pursue a career in academic science
The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate complex scientific ideas to others
Pro-active and creative approach to meeting the demands of research
Excellent organisational skills and an ability to use the scientific literature to drive new experimentation
Excellent analytical skills
A Settlement Allowance of £1,000 will be paid to you, provided that you are within the first year of service with the MRC. If you leave within one year of receiving the allowance you understand that you will have to pay back this allowance.
A training allowance is payable once the RDFP has been set up and a mentor has been identified. Continued receipt of this allowance will be dependent upon your commitment to training and development evidenced through a properly maintained RDFP. The amount of the allowance increases on the anniversary of your start date: -
Year one: £850pa
Year two: £1,300pa
Year three and beyond: £1,800pa
